Overview The 2007 Chevrolet Uplander is a fairly well-equipped minivan that successfully delivers many of the features drivers expect from a modern minivan. The Uplander’s rather unique styling stems in part from Chevy trying to shake the bland suburban image of a conventional minivan. But while it may be debatable as to how successful the Uplander has been in terms of reinventing the minivan as a ?crossover sport van,? the model does deliver the goods when it comes to practicality and amenities. The 2007 Uplander offers the base model LS trim level and the more upscale LT. Standard features on the LS include 17-inch alloy wheels, power accessories, air-conditioning, a CD/MP3 player, and an OnStar communications system. The LT trim level includes the 1LT, 2LT, and 3LT. Features on the 1LT version include passenger-side power sliding doors, a rear-seat DVD entertainment system, alloy wheels, and a power driver’s seat. Stepping up to the 2LT sees the addition of dual-zone climate control, a trip computer, steering-wheel-mounted audio controls, and an overhead console. The top-of-the-line 3LT version comes with leather seats, front-seat heating, a power passenger seat, satellite radio, and the innovative PhatNoise digital media system. For starters it discontinues the availability of all-wheel drive along with the base model 3.5-liter, V-6 engine. A 3.9-liter V-6 comes standard on all models, as does front drive. The Uplander’s engine has been designed to be E85 compatible, which means it runs on regular gasoline or a combination of gas and ethanol. Exterior The 2007 Chevrolet Uplander stands out from the generic minivans that gained popularity during the 1990s. Thus the model features an extended front end that gives it a more SUV-like appearance. The Uplander also stands about as tall as an SUV and boasts styling cues that suggest the ?crossover sport van? Chevrolet has attempted to market it as. Interior Capable of seating seven, the 2007 Chevrolet Uplander offers third-row seating, which folds flat with a 50/50 split. Lower trim levels feature second-row modular and removable seats. Upgrading to the 2LT or 3LT models sees the addition of fixed captain’s chairs. If you want extra legroom for passengers in the second or third row, you might opt for the extended-wheelbase model. A two-tone color scheme with faux metallic accenting comes standard on all models. Other available options include a folding center tray with cup holders between the first and second rows of seating. It also uses an overhead rail system for the LT model that enables easy access to climate and entertainment functions from the rear seat. The optional PhatNoise digital media system provides another available option. Performance & Handling For a minivan, the 2007 Chevrolet Uplander offers a fair degree of handling ability. This is in part due to the vehicle’s suspension tuning. For even more responsive handling, consider upgrading to the load-leveling suspension included as part of the Safe and Secure Package. On the downside, braking ability remains average across the line and the Uplander’s 41-foot turning radius leads to poor maneuverability in tight spaces. Safety Four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes come standard on all versions of the 2007 Chevrolet Uplander. All models save the regular-wheelbase version of the LS also come equipped with stability control. The LS offers the additional option of front seat-mounted side-impact airbags which come standard on the LT. Side airbags for the second row are available for the 2LT and 3LT versions.
